Aims
Aims
The New Zealand Medical Student Journal (NZMSJ), Te Hautaka o nga Akonga Rongoa, is an online, open access, peer reviewed scientific journal (ISSN: 1179-3597) run by medical students for medical students in New Zealand. NZMSJ is currently indexed by Google Scholar, Informit and Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Issues are independently published as the New Zealand Medical Student Journal Society. Our mission is to promote and encourage the research endeavours of medical students at all levels of study across New Zealand.
NZMSJ is a registered incorporated society and a registered charity (CC45352) which focuses on promoting research, academia, and publishing among medical students, whose work is largely underrepresented in scientific literature.
The NZMSJ has three primary aims:
Scope
The NZMSJ publishes a wide variety of content that relates to all areas of health, medicine, and medical education. Articles must be educational, interesting, readable, and presented professionally. Academic articles, clinical case reports, and editorials are published in print issues, whilst creative works and media reviews are published on the NZMSJ Blog. In publishing this content, the NZMSJ provides medical students with a forum for discussion at a national and international level.
The journal publishes original articles in English, of clinical, public health, translational, and basic science research in any medical discipline. The NZMSJ accepts observational, interventional, experimental, and qualitative studies.
To be considered for publication, the research should be of interest to medical students. Ideally, a medical student (at any level) should be listed as the first author. Other researchers and supervisors from the research team who meet the ICMJE Authorship Guidelines must also be listed as authors.
Publication frequency
The NZMSJ publishes two issues a year, usually one in the first half of the year and the other in the second half. Each issue contains between eight and fifteen editorial, academic, and feature articles.
